Intensive care Paediatric Nurse, receives the keys for his new home from PM
January 06
A new home-owner at one of Metropolitan Home Ownership’s latest development in south-east London was handed the keys to his new home by two surprise guests this week. Prime Minister Tony Blair and the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown visited Andrew Carnegie at his new home in Blenheim Grove, a new development dedicated to key workers working in the capital.
Andrew, who works as an intensive care Paediatric Nurse at Kings College Hospital, drank tea with the Mr Blair and Mr Brown, while they discussed the need for affordable homes in London and the south-east. They were joined by local MP Harriet Harman and Bernie Conroy, MHO Assistant Director.
Andrew reserved a two bedroom Key Worker Living shared ownership apartment off-plan from one of the 14 shared ownership apartments comprising Churchill Court at Blenheim Grove in Peckham. He said:
“I was really proud to be able to show them my new home. They seemed genuinely pleased for me and impressed by the whole development. Because of the shared ownership scheme offered by MHO I have been able to put down roots in London, the city in which I love to live and work. The flat is brilliant. It is bright and modern and is fantastically located in a really up and coming area, which is also close to the station.”
Bernie Conroy, MHO Assistant Director, said:
“We are delighted the Prime Minister and Chancellor chose to visit Blenheim Grove. It is a great example of an effectively marketed site and how we can offer fantastic properties to people who would have otherwise been simply priced out of town.”
She added:
“Without the shared ownership model we offer, many key workers like Andrew would be forced to leave, placing a serious drain on vital personnel in London’s essential services.”
