Read a transcript of Karen's Story.
Karen: "Having finished University in 2004, I decided to move back to my parents town to start my work as a teacher."
Title:KAREN
"Because of my financial situation from being a student it was best that I moved back home with my parents.
We didn't have the money at the time, my boyfriend and I to move out and we decided that rather than paying rent on a property we would save up some money to put towards our own home.
It was quite nice to be at home see my Mum and my dad regularly but there were problems that came with it as well.Three younger brothers meant that evenings weren't the relaxing ones that I really was after. They involved shouting and people coming into my room so I did start to think that the time had come for me to move out.
When we saw the mortgage advisor he told us that we would be able to get a loan from Metropolitan Home Ownership as part of the key worker living scheme. That would involve us being able to choose our own home on the open market and they would provide a loan to put towards the property topping up would we could get from the mortgage company.
Before we new about the scheme we didn't really think that we would be able to afford a place at all or if we could then it would be something that was quite a low price rather than something we wanted.
With the help we got from MHO we were able to buy a flat that we wanted, one that we fell in love with as soon as we saw, rather than on we had to have because we can't afford amything else.
We would never of been as happy as we are now."
