Over 800 home seekers brave “tropical” rain to attend Royal Greenwich and South East London New Home Show

Priced out South-East Londoners defied the elements in their hundreds on Saturday to find out more about their low cost home ownership and renting options at the Royal Greenwich and South East London New Home Show 2014 held at Woolwich Town Hall and supported by Metropolitan's Homematch service.

The event, delivered in partnership by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Metropolitan’s Homematch team and  housing provider members of the South East London Housing Partnership, was organised to provide a venue for would-be home buyers to find out more about Shared Ownership, Help to Buy and local options such as Meridian Home Start’s deposit scheme.

Exhibitors included a range of specialist housing providers, including L&Q, Peabody, Viridian and Notting Hill Housing, Hyde New Homes, Moat and Affinity Sutton as well as Direction Law solicitors and independent financial advisors Sherwins and DeHavilland.  Presentations ran throughout the day to advise attendees on their options and the typical steps to homes ownership through a low cost home ownership scheme.

Alice Maguire, Events Co-ordinator for L&Q who exhibited at the event to promote homes available at a number of local developments including Greenwich Square, said:

“The show was a great success - we were very busy on our stand, taking over 180 leads.”

Homematch, a free service from Metropolitan, is designed to offer Londoners the opportunity to find out more about and apply for homes to own and rent affordably from a range of housing providers working in the capital. The service offers a property search website at www.homematch.org.uk, a customer advice line 0845 230 8099, and organises property shows aimed at helping match home seekers to homes that they might be eligible to buy or rent.

Bernie Conroy, Home Ownership Director at Metropolitan explains:

“We were delighted to be able to support Royal Greenwich and the South East London Housing Partnership in delivering this event to help raise awareness of the thousands of new homes coming available in South East London in the next few years.  As Shared Ownership and intermediate renting options become increasingly mainstream, we launched Homematch to provide information about what’s available and offer opportunities like this for home hunters and housing providers to meet.”

One home seeker who attended the show said:

“It’s been really useful, I’ve spent hours over the last couple of months looking online but I found it much easier to find out what I’m eligible for, which properties are in my reach and how the process works by speaking to people face to face.”

For those who weren’t able to attend the show, Homematch are planning events in the coming year, details will be posted onto www.homematch.org.uk where you can register free to use the service and receive future event information updates.

A short video showing customer feedback given at the event can be seen on our FlythenestTV Youtube channel.
